Been with them over 7 years. Auto rates outrageous…eventually. They quote you low then creep them up a little on each renewal. Auto claims process had 1 very recentlyvery fast and simple at least by using their recommended repair center. Homeowners prices low when couple with auto but have seen 3 unrelated close friends fight for very legitimate hurricane/storm claims.
I filed a claim for hail damage in November of 2011 in the NYC area. The adjuster came out within 5 days of my notification. He inspected my home and gave me a check onsite to begin the repairs. After getting a few quotes from contractors that were much higher I was getting frustrated because I could not find anyone to repair my roof for the $5200 that was allotted to me. Estimates were around $7500 from local contractors. I called adjuster and he asked for the information of the contractor I would like to use so he could contact. Adjuster worked out difference in pricing and talked the contractor down to the actual cost to do the roof of $5700. Work was completed with no problems and the only amount I paid out of pocket was my $500 deductible. I will stand by the great service of Allstate.
In my opinion, no one ever writes anything good about a person/company anymore. It seems like the only time people speak their minds is when they are upset or angry.
On April 16, 2011, my house burned down completely. Allstate, after having all the inspections and investigations, completed satisfactorily has still not moved toward any resolution of the claim. According to the Allstate adjuster, they are dragging their feet because of a form (unsigned) that they received from the Florence Allstate agency in Albany, NY. This form states that I was going to move into the house within 3 months after signing the contract. The house was still under construction. I never saw this form and as I mentioned before, it is unsigned. The Florence agency will not admit that they sent the form and will not discuss anything about the claim with me. It seems that Allstate does not want their agents to sell homeowner policies to unoccupied residences. None of this changes the fact that Allstate has an outstanding obligation to pay on the claim. They have stalled for a year now and I guess my next step is to hire a lawyer. In NYS, the insurance companies have successfully lobbied that if an insurance company loses in court, they do not have to pay the lawyer and court expenses of the insured so they have nothing to lose. Allstate has a history of stalling and dragging out the payments of legitimate claims hoping the participants die or will accept a low ball offer. It seems that ethics, fairness, playing by the rules all have no place in the Allstate method of conducting their business.
